When searching for that first home or a second, it is importatant to first do your own research. Know the real estate market you want to be in and never be in a rush to buy. If it is possible it is always a good idea to have 6 months lead time before you actually go to contract. This will allow a prospective buyer to develop a good sence of how pricing and sales fluctuate. Never let your agent control the process.

If at any time your agent starts to get angry at you or pressues you to move forward when your not ready give them a warning to not do it again. Both brokers and real estate agents can become a bit pushy espeically when they feel a sale may fall throught. It is important to not let their pressue influence your decisions. Only give one chance when it comes to be pushed around. Know the number to your regional association and if you must call do so.
